Chocolate


Easter is only 1 week away and here the traditional celebrations are already starting!

So what would easter be without chocolate? Here the chocolate easter eggs are huge (literally you can buy them in 1kg, 3kg or 5kg options….seriously!!). They are wrapped beautifully as well, however I won’t be trying one this year as I will be making my own!

I always found that easter egg chocolate tasted different to the normal one in a better way, so I always loved easter eggs. Unfortunately store bought chocolate isn’t the best for you and is usually loaded with nasties.

Instead now I would rather make my own chocolate, which tastes so much better and I can add my own flavourings (or you can just have it as is of course!).

Making your own chocolate is so easy and only requires 3 ingredients, and it’s so much better for you than the store bought variety!

Ingredients
1/2 cup cacao butter
3 1/2 tbsp cacao
2-3 tbsp honey
desiccated coconut, to taste
hazelnuts, chopped and whole

Equipment
Mixing bowls
Saucepans
Spatula
chocolate moulds

Melt the cacao butter in a saucepan over low heat and add the cacao and honey to taste.

Split into three batches and add the chopped hazelnuts into one bowl, the coconut into another, for the final batch you can leave plain or pop in a whole hazelnut, or you can combine the chopped hazelnuts with the coconut!

Place each mixture into the moulds and freeze for at least 30 minutes. The chocolates need to be stored in the fridge or freezer as they will melt at room temperature.

Suggestions/Variations
*For the moulds I used and ice block tray which had handy silicon tops.

*You can use different additions if you don’t eat nuts or coconut, such as dried fruit or they are just as good plain.
